Complete beginners are welcome. Every skill is introduced gradually.
A welcoming Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu introduction for adults 60 and over who want to keep moving, learning, and connecting in a supportive environment.
Tue + Thu mornings · Beginners welcome
You simply need to be willing to move, learn, and try something new.
Complete beginners are welcome. Every skill is introduced gradually.
Movements are adapted to the individual and practiced at a comfortable pace.
The starting point is where you are today, not where someone else thinks you should be.
This program is not designed around aggressive sparring, competition, or keeping up with younger athletes. We use Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as a practical way to move, think, and learn with other people.
Each session begins gently, builds toward simple partner practice, and closes with recovery, questions, and conversation.
Gentle movement, breathing, coordination, and time to become comfortable on the mat.
Practice moving efficiently, changing positions, maintaining balance, and getting up and down from the floor.
Learn simple Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu concepts slowly and practice them with a cooperative partner.
Use light problem-solving exercises to apply what you learned without aggressive sparring.
Breathing, recovery, questions, and time to connect with the group.
The goal is to keep learning and leave class feeling better than when you arrived.
Traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu often includes live sparring. This introductory program takes a different approach. Students first learn how to move, think, and work with another person safely.
We create the relationship and sense of safety first. Then we teach the physical skills.
This four-week introduction is for men and women age 60 and over who want a supportive way to stay active, keep learning, and try Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
The first group stays small so the coaches can provide more individual attention and learn what each participant needs.
At the end of four weeks, you can decide whether continuing feels right for you.
Tuesday and Thursday from 11:20 AM to 12:10 PM at the Dripping Springs academy.
If this sounds like something you would enjoy, or if a parent, spouse, friend, or family member comes to mind, we would love to hear from you.
Tell us a little about your starting point. The Joao Crus BJJ team will follow up to help you understand the program and plan the right first visit.
