No flexibility requirement

Movements are adapted to the individual and practiced at a comfortable pace.

Fitness

A different kind of Jiu-Jitsu class

What a typical class looks like

FIVE PARTS. ONE STEADY FLOW.

Each session begins gently, builds toward simple partner practice, and closes with recovery, questions, and conversation.

  1. 01

    Mobility, balance, and warm-up

Gentle movement, breathing, coordination, and time to become comfortable on the mat.

  2. 02

    Jiu-Jitsu movement skills

Practice moving efficiently, changing positions, maintaining balance, and getting up and down from the floor.

  3. 03

    Technique and partner practice

Learn simple Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu concepts slowly and practice them with a cooperative partner.

  4. 04

    Controlled positional games

Use light problem-solving exercises to apply what you learned without aggressive sparring.

  5. 05

    Cool down and conversation

Breathing, recovery, questions, and time to connect with the group.

No aggressive sparring

THE GOAL IS NOT TO WIN A ROUND.

The goal is to keep learning and leave class feeling better than when you arrived.

Traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu often includes live sparring. This introductory program takes a different approach. Students first learn how to move, think, and work with another person safely.

  • No expectation to fight, compete, or prove anything
  • Cooperative practice is the foundation
  • Resistance is introduced gradually and only when appropriate
  • Every movement can be adapted to the individual
Teaching philosophyRELATIONAL FIRST.
PHYSICAL SECOND.

We create the relationship and sense of safety first. Then we teach the physical skills.

Who this is for

CURIOUS IS QUALIFIED.

This four-week introduction is for men and women age 60 and over who want a supportive way to stay active, keep learning, and try Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

  • Complete beginners and people who have never practiced martial arts
  • Adults interested in mobility, balance, and coordination practice
  • People who want a new physical and mental challenge
  • Anyone uncomfortable with a traditional fight-gym environment
  • People looking for connection and a supportive community
4-week introduction

Two mornings per week

The first group stays small so the coaches can provide more individual attention and learn what each participant needs.

At the end of four weeks, you can decide whether continuing feels right for you.
